Project Title: Harrison Table
Client: Private
Furniture designer/maker: shawstephens ltd
Wood supplier: Associated Timber Services Ltd
Project Description:
Commissioned by a private client, we were asked to design a side table to display a handmade John Harrison sea clock, as part of the client’s wedding anniversary present to his wife. The table needed to incorporate a drawer, to store the clock’s documentation and winding key.
We chose English walnut, due to the beautiful grain pattern, and it’s relative rarity compared to the much used American black walnut. A burr veneer was used for the top and underneath of the table top, picking up the tones of the solid legs and rails, whilst adding a luxurious feel to the piece. Cast bronze elements made at a local foundry complemented the walnut, and enabled us to
engrave the wedding anniversary date discreetly into the table’s under frame.
